Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #6

Hello!  We are rolling ahead with week #6 of the 12 tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style.  That makes us at the half way point!  I hope you will jump in soon.  There is still oodles of time to play along.  You can definitely have all 12 projects completed and linked up by the deadline of December 19th.  You can find all the challenge requirements in our Week #1 post here.

This week, I went with kraft and white as my theme.  A jumbo manila tag was used as a base and covered with a layer of kraft CS.  White embossing paste was used with the Tim Holtz Holiday Knit stencil.  The new Treeline thinlits die was used to cut two layers of lacy trees which were dusted with Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter.  I wanted to included two of the tiny deer from the Idea-ology Decorative Deer set, but they were more of a cream color instead of stark white so I painted them with Snow Cap Mixative and nestled them between the treeline layers.

Using the Holiday Greens, Mini Thinlits set, a bunch of greenery was cut from white CS and also dusted with the Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter.  A pop of red, country style, was added with red gingham ribbon and red rick rack.

The sentiment from Mini Doodle Greetings was stamped with Versamark and embossed with white embossing powder.   A die from the Thinlits Labels set was used to cut the sentiment panel, which was popped up using craft foam.  The piece was finished off with a polymer clay "gingerbread" heart.

Now it's your turn.  Can't wait to see what you are inspired by from this week's tag!  Thank you to everyone who has played along so far.  I love seeing everyone's fantastic entries.

Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #5

Double click any image to zoom in for details.
Greetings friends and visitors, I'm back to roll out Week #5 of my annual inspiration challenge The 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style.  This is about the easiest challenge you will ever enter.  All you have to do is find one thing about my weekly tag that will inspire you and incorporate that element into some type of winter holiday piece.  It can be something as simple as holly, gold, crinkle ribbon or maybe the baubles and then use that element in your project.  You also have to include a couple of links in your post.  You have until December 19th to finish the challenge.  You can find all the challenge requirements in the Week #1 post.

Here is your inspiration for Week #5.  Using a jumbo manila tag that we sell at The Funkie Junkie Boutique, this week I actually covered the manila tag with a piece of white CS cut to fit over the tag.  I had been dying seam binding for some thank you gifts (that we are sending out with orders from The Funkie Junkie Boutique) by spritzing white seam binding with Tarnished Brass distress spray stain.  When I cleaned up my craft sheet by spraying water on it, I got beautiful bubbles of gold and laid a piece of white CS over it to absorb the leftovers resulting a a nice blotchy white and gold card stock.  It was a little warped when it dried so I flattened it out with my craft iron and then glued a piece over the manila tag.

Now, what could I do with this pretty vintage-looking base?  So many possibilities but I settled on cutting a piece of kraft CS with the holly die from the new Mixed Media Christmas Thinlits die set.  I ripped the edges and sponged them with Vintage Photo DI.  To give some interest, I masked off all but the space where I wanted to place my die cut and then stamped Wendy Vecchi's Text background stamp with Jet Black archival ink and also stamped a little text here and there on other parts of the tag.  I kept it simple by also stamping the text onto some of the holly sprigs that were waste from the die cuts.

Everything then got a bit of vintage gold foiling along the edges, because, you know, I'm suddenly very into foiling - LOL.  I started thinking about what I could use as an embellishment and thought this might be a good time to use Tim Holtz's new Baubles.  I thought I would grab my Gold Alcohol Ink Mixative and turn the Baubles gold.  Well, it didn't work out so great, at least at first glance.  I forgot that Tim Holtz's new way of coloring the baubles was to put them in little cups and swirl them around in the alcohol ink.  I used the old zip lock bag method and it didn't work out great.  The mixative got sort of sticky and the baubles all stuck to the plastic bag. When I pulled them away, some of the gold pulled off.  They were blotchy.  I let them dry and was disappointed with the way they looked.  I started to toss them out, looked at them again and thought hey, these look worn, like the gold had rubbed off.  I actually liked the look - very vintage - LOL, and decided to use them.  They are glued on with Multi Medium Matte.

Finally, I used some of the seam binding I had dyed to tie a triple loop bow.  A sentiment from Mini Holidays #5 was stamped on some of the white and gold CS, cut out and foiled around the edges, completing this week's tag.

Now it's your turn.  You have until December 19th to college all 12 tags if you want to qualify for the $50 prize drawings.  And, don't forget, everyone who completes the challenge according to the requirements will receive a 10% off coupon to shop at The Funkie Junkie Boutique in January 2017.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Can't wait to see what you make!

Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #4

Hello friends and visitors.  This week it's week #4 for the 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style.  Again this week, I'm having fun with foil.  I know foiling has been around the paper crafting world for a couple of years now, but I never used it much.  All of a sudden, I can't get enough of it - LOL.  Especially gold for the holidays although I'm thinking I will give silver a run too.

For this tag, I started, as I always do, with a jumbo manila tag that we sell at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  I cut out the corner element using the new Tim Holtz Mixed Media Christmas Thinlits die and then gave it two coats of white gesso.   I used a coarse paintbrush to apply it because I like the vertical brush strokes to show.  Then, using a small piece of white CS, I applied the Christmas red deco sheet to it so it would show through the die cut pattern.  When I did the die cut, I saved the tiny holly leaves, colored them green and then applied green Stickles.  When dry, it was like putting a jig saw puzzle together - I had to figure out which holly leaves went where.  The new Christmas Tidings Design Tape was used to create a pretty top for the tag.

BTW, I always cut a similar sized piece of chipboard and glue my tag to the chipboard.  It keeps it stiff,  not allowing it to curl as one-layer paper craft projects are likely to do.  I also add a chipboard easel to the back so it will be self-standing.  I use the old Tim Holtz Small Easel die to cut the easel.

Next, using the Poinsettia Mini Layering Stencil (from Set 19), I stenciled on the poinsettias.  I used Wendy Vecchi's Red Geranium ink for the stenciling, after covering up all the holly on the stencil with removable tape.  That's a fiddly job but I didn't want the holly leaves stenciled in red.  The Red Geranium was too red to match the deco sheet so I toned it down a bit by stenciling over it with Wendy Vecchi's Watering Can gray.

Then I went for the foil.  This time to adhere it, I used a glue stick, just running it lightly down the edges and then applying the foil.  I love the spotty coverage that gives.  Looking at my tag at that point, I felt I had too much white space above the large poinsettia so I dug out my old Tim Holtz Flourish stamp and added a foil flourish using Sticky Embossing Powder to adhere the foil.

Now it was time to create my crinoline poinsettias.  I used two dies, the Mini Poinsettia Movers and Shapers and the Tattered Poinsettia Bigz die for the smaller top ones and the two smallest poinsettia die cuts from the Bigz die for the bottom one.  They were colored with Barn Door and Cracked Pistachio distress stains, crunched up in a ball and dried with my heat tool.  After adhering the layers together, I used a good sized dot of Multi Medium Matte in the center of each one and while wet, poured gold micro beads on them

Finally, I created the sentiment stamping it on white CS with Jet Black archival using the Labels Thinlits die set.  The sentiment is from Tim Holtz's Mini Holidays 5 set (one of my favorite Christmas sentiment stamps).  I sponged on Barn Door distress ink and then edged it with Vintage Photo, doing a little spritz and flick for the background.  I went around the edges with the mini glue stick and applied gold foil.

That's it for Tag #4.  I hope you can find something here to inspire you to make a holiday project.  If you do, you are invited to play along in this challenge.  All the rules can be found in the Week #1 post about the challenge.

Thank you so much to everyone who has stopped by and especially to those who have left comments and the wonderful friends who have already entered the challenge.  It's so exciting to me to see the entries coming in!
