Lines of Communication

Welcome back!  I'm so happy you stopped by today.  I have another card I made with the newly released Secretary Pool from Artistic Outpost.  It's the same set I used to make the typewriter card.  This time I used the wonderful old telephone image as the main image and combined with it with the alphabet stamp and the ledger from Ephemera Backgrounds for backgrounds.  The alphabet was stamped on cork with Ranger Jet Black Archival ink and cut out with the Movers & Shapers Baroque die.  The bottom panel and the horizontal strip were both stamped with images from the Ephemera Backgrounds set and sponged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  The front panel was also embossed with the Regal Flourishes Texture Fade.  The telegram was another stamp from Ephemera Backgrounds that was stuck into the cork.  The two pretty brads are from Stampin' Up!  The designer paper is digital from the Crafty Secrets Creating with Vintage Patterns CD.  I thought the color livened up an otherwise monochromatic vintage card.

I'm not going to give you a step by step, but if you have questions, I'll be happy to share anything with you.  Just leave your questions in the comments section or email me privately at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com.

Thanks again for stopping by and for any comments you care to leave.

Awesome Artistic Outpost Release!

Hello and welcome!  I have the honor again this month of being a guest designer for Artistic Outpost's March stamp release.  There are three wonderful sets being released today that I had the privilege of working with to create samples.  March is Women's History Month here in the US, and Artistic Outpost wants to celebrate all of our customers of the female persuasion by offering THREE brand new collections that should tickle any gal's fancy.

The first sample I am sharing with you today is from Flower Market:  inspired by the famous flower markets of France, this collection of spring images includes 13 images including daffodils, lavender, poppies, and a cherub French girl who will most likely be chasing butterflies.   I was playing around with Tim Holtz's Wrinkle Free Distress technique after watching one of his Chemistry 101 videos and created this vivid colored background for this tag.  Not my usual style but fun and satisfying nevertheless.  I stamped the poppy from this set onto Tim Holtz Tissue Wrap and colored it with Copic markets.  The die cut was made using two Holtz dies - the Styled Labels and Mini Labels.  I pounced it with Snow Cap Acrylic Paint Dabber and then edged it with Gold Paint Dabber.  The floral hardware is from my boutique (see thumb link below) as is the Tim Holtz ball chain holding the sentiment tag.

Moving on, my next sample features a sentiment from a fabulous set Quote & Quotables: women, ladies, girls...they say the darndest things. This collection of nine fanciful quotes features idyllic and profound statements by Helen Keller, Lucille Ball, and Audrey Hepburn among others.  I LOVE sentiments and this set is sure to become a favorite go-to set for me!

My main backgound layer was stamped randomly with a number of images from the Flower Market set and then sponged with distressinks icluding Weathered Wood, Dried Marigold, Scatterd Straw and Vintage Photo.  After sponging, I ran it through the Damask Texture Fade. The sentiment and winged things were stamped and then cut out with a new favorite die from Tim Holtz - the ATC and corners die.  My other new favorite die is the ticket die also used her in black, both dies are such perfect sizes for including on cards.  The letters from the Secretary Pool set are definitely going to be another go-to fav, this time I used them to spell out SOAR.  Continuing the theme of winged things, i hadded a tiny Venise applique butterfly that I hand dyed.

And to close out a terrific trio, I have a sample using Secretary Pool: featuring retro images including a typewriter, paper clip, staple collage, telephone, and a wonderful vintage alphabet, enjoy creating whimsical cards and other works of art with this versatile vintage collection.  I had a lot of fun with this collection and you will also be seeing a lot of this vintage typewriter.  I used the alphabet, stamping in blocks on Very Vanilla and embossing according to Tim's enameled stamping found on page 44 of the Compendium of Curiosities II.  It was sponged with Victorian Velvet.  The "typing" was done on my computer.  The metal work is Ranger's Metal Foil Tape Sheets, cut with the Vintage Lace and Mini Hearts M&S dies.  I ran the heart through the Regal Flourish texture fade and painted both with Pitch Black acrylic paint dabber.  When about half dry, I rubbed of all I could get off with a paper towel.  Love the tarnished look it gives.  I used a mini paper clip and a die from PTI to cut the "steno pad". And I'm sure you can see lots of Vintage Photo DI was used to shabby this one up.

All three stamp collections measure 8.5" x 5.5". They are available unmounted as a sheet of beautiful red rubber, or you can have our wonderful owner Steven mount them on clingfoam and hand trim them to perfection. The mounted stamps come with a plastic index sheet/card for ease of storage.

I hope you will stop around to all the Artistic Outpost designers' blogs and leave some encouraging comments.  There is some wonderful artwork just waiting for you to drool over!

What's Your Vintage Style? Share it This Week at Frilly and Funkie

Hello and thanks for coming by to check out my sample for our very first Frilly and Funkie challenge.  We're the new kid on the challenge blog block specializing in something old - vintage in all it's many forms, styles, dimensions.  If you are a vintage lover, we have something for everyone from frilly and shabby to funkie and grungy.  We have two design teams - one is Frilly and one is Funkie.  This week they are all participating but normally we will start our challenges with the Frilly line up and the second week the Funkies will share their take on the challenge theme. Sound like fun?  There will be lots of fun stuff happening on the blog with numerous informative posts throughout the week.

I'm hosting this week and we are starting off with a wide open challenge - just make something in your favorite vintage style and share it with us at Frilly and Funkie.  I had such a blast making this card with the new Secretary Pool set just released today from Artistic Outpost.  Because I am guest designing with them this month, I got the set ahead of time to make samples with.  The sentiment is from another new release Quote and Quotables.

How do you like my typewriter ribbon?  Maybe I should ask if you even knew it was a typewriter ribbon.  In fact, I'd like to ask, have you EVER used a typewriter?  In fact, I thought it was such a fun question that I put a poll on my sidebar.  I have to confess to using typewriters even BEFORE they were electric!  We had one in my home that looked very similar to this image - maybe that's why I love it so - LOL!

Back to the typewriter ribbon - remember struggling with those things when they wore out and had to be changed?  I made mine out of a piece of rayon seam binding and used Copic markers to color it.  My ribbon reel was handmade from two pieces of filigree metal that I sell in the shop.  It started out an antiqued bronze color and I altered it with Pitch Black Alcohol Ink (love altering metals).  Stop by the Frilly and Funkie challenge blog this week as I will be doing our first Friday Focus on using filigree metals.  And Saturday at Frilly and Funkie, I'm doing a Step-by-Step on how I made this card.  So I'll save the deets until then.  In the meatime, you can go shopping in my Funkie Junkie Boutique.  Listed below are the product links for what I used here that I sell in the boutique.  There is a 10% off coupon just for trying my Zibbet boutique good through March 31st.  Just use MARCH10 upon checkout.

Can't wait to see your vintage creations linked up at Frilly and Funkie.
